Relentless monsoon rains continue to batter Kerala, with the death toll rising to eight as landslides, flash floods and waterlogging disrupt normal life across several districts. The worsening weather has forced authorities to shift more than 5,700 people to relief camps, while rescue teams remain on high alert in the worst-affected areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange Alerts for multiple districts, warning of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds over the next 24 hours.Kannur

Kannur has recorded some of the state’s heaviest rainfall, while rising river levels and overflowing reservoirs have prompted authorities to open the shutters of several dams as a precaution.

Emergency response teams, including the State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), Fire and Rescue Services, police and local volunteers, are carrying out evacuation and relief operations. Schools and educational institutions in several districts have remained closed, while examinations have been postponed due to the severe weather conditions.

The state government has urged residents living in landslide-prone areas, riverbanks and low-lying regions to move to safer locations and avoid unnecessary travel. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea as rough weather and high waves continue along Kerala’s coastline.Authorities

Authorites have warned that rainfall is expected to persist over the coming days, keeping the risk of flooding and landslides high.
