The proposed tour is not a small assignment. India are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh, with the series expected to take place in the first half of September. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has already announced the tour as part of its 2026 international calendar.
But the cricket itself is only part of the story.
India’s last planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh was postponed in 2025, with the BCCI and BCB agreeing to move the three ODIs and three T20Is to September 2026. The decision came amid scheduling issues and wider uncertainty surrounding the tour.
That history is why the proposed September series is being watched carefully.
According to reports, the BCCI and BCB have been working on a possible window, but the final go-ahead from the Indian government remains important. The BCCI is also understood to be considering changes to its schedule to create space for the Bangladesh tour.
For the players, a six-match white-ball series would be another important part of India’s preparations for the next phase of international cricket. For the boards, however, the series carries a different weight.
India and Bangladesh share a long cricketing relationship, but bilateral sport does not exist in isolation from the political relationship between the two countries.
