A political protest staged inside the Parliament complex over alleged irregularities in Ram Mandir donation funds has escalated into a legal controversy, with police complaints being filed against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Independent MP Pappu Yadav, and Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad.

The controversy stems from a symbolic street-play style protest held by Opposition MPs, during which they alleged misappropriation of donations collected for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The

The protest, led by Pappu Yadav in saffron attire, was intended to question the BJP-led government’s handling of the alleged issue and demand greater transparency.

On Saturday, a group of seers in Varanasi lodged a criminal complaint at the Kotwali Police Station, alleging that the skit insulted the sanctity of the Ram Mandir and hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Separate complaints were also filed by lawyers, seeking legal action against the Opposition leaders for allegedly disrespecting a matter of deep religious significance.

The incident has triggered a fresh political confrontation, with the BJP accusing the Opposition of insulting devotees and using the Ram Mandir for political messaging. Opposition leaders, however, have maintained that the protest was aimed at highlighting alleged financial irregularities rather than disrespecting the temple or religious beliefs.

At the time of publication, the police complaints had been submitted, and authorities were expected to examine the allegations before deciding on further legal action. The

The episode has added to the increasingly heated atmosphere surrounding the ongoing Parliament session, where both the ruling alliance and the Opposition continue to clash over issues ranging from examination reforms to religious and governance-related matters.
