India has officially begun its journey towards hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games after receiving the Commonwealth Games Federation flag during the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The symbolic handover marks the formal transition of hosting responsibilities and signals the start of preparations for one of the biggest multi-sport events ever to be staged in the country.
The Games flag was handed over to the Indian delegation in the presence of athletes, officials and international sporting representatives, with Ahmedabad set to host the 2030 edition. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for Indian sport, reflecting the country’s growing stature in the global sporting community and its readiness to organise a major international event.
Officials said preparations will focus on upgrading sporting infrastructure, developing athlete-friendly facilities, improving transport networks and ensuring sustainable venue development.
