San Diego: Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon mobile processor portfolio with the launch of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, introducing artificial intelligence capabilities, faster graphics and improved power efficiency to the next generation of budget and mid-range Android smartphones.

The new chipsets are designed to bring features that were once limited to premium devices to more affordable handsets, as smartphone makers continue to focus on AI-powered experiences across different price segments.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 targets upper mid-range smartphones with improved on-device AI processing, enhanced camera performance and smoother gaming.

The Qualcomm said the platform delivers faster graphics performance, quicker app launches and support for Wi-Fi 7, allowing manufacturers to offer more capable devices without moving into flagship pricing. For entry-level and budget smartphones.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 marks one of the biggest upgrades to the series in recent years. The chipset introduces support for high-frame-rate gaming, improved graphics performance and Dual SIM Dual Active connectivity, enabling users to remain connected to two mobile networks simultaneously.

The announcement comes as demand for AI-enabled smartphones continues to grow worldwide. Chipmakers are increasingly bringing AI features to lower-priced devices, allowing users to access intelligent photography, voice assistance and productivity tools without paying flagship prices.

Qualcomm said smartphones powered by the new processors will be introduced by manufacturers including HONOR, OPPO, Redmi and realme, with the first devices expected to reach consumers later this year.

The launch is expected to intensify competition in the affordable Android smartphone market, where brands are racing to offer premium-level performance, longer battery life and advanced AI capabilities at lower prices.
