A heated political confrontation erupted in the Lok Sabha after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being responsible for the police action against students protesting the alleged NEET paper leak.
Gandhi alleged that excessive force was used during the demonstrations and questioned the government’s handling of the protests.
His remarks triggered strong protests from BJP members, who rejected the allegations and demanded that Gandhi either present evidence to support his claims or apologise to the House.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju described the accusations as baseless, while the exchange led to repeated disruptions during the proceedings.
The Congress leader also renewed his demand for accountability over the police response to the student protests, saying those responsible should face action. Later, speaking outside Parliament, Gandhi reiterated his stand and refused to withdraw his remarks despite the BJP’s demand for an apology.
The row has intensified the ongoing political battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, with both parties accusing each other of politicising the issue.
The controversy comes amid continued debate over the government’s response to student protests and concerns surrounding examination-related issues.
