Bhubaneswar: HCLTech has unveiled plans to build its first artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Odisha with an investment of ₹14,257 crore, marking one of the largest AI infrastructure projects announced by an Indian IT services company.
The project will also include a 5,000-seat technology hub in Bhubaneswar, strengthening the state’s ambitions to emerge as a major destination for AI and digital infrastructure.
The AI data centre will be developed through a partnership between HCLTech, Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI and the Odisha government.
The facility will come up at the proposed Odisha Sovereign AI Park and is expected to support AI applications for enterprises as well as government organisations.
The accompanying technology hub is scheduled to become operational by 2028 and will have the capacity to accommodate around 5,000 professionals. The investment includes financial support from the Odisha government as part of the state’s push to attract large-scale technology projects.
The announcement comes weeks after HCLTech acquired a strategic stake in Sarvam AI, deepening its presence in India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The company said the new facility will combine its AI infrastructure capabilities with Sarvam’s foundation models to develop sector-specific AI solutions for public and private sector customers.
For Odisha, the project represents one of its biggest technology investments to date and is expected to strengthen the state’s position in the country’s emerging sovereign AI ecosystem.
It also reflects a broader shift among India’s leading IT companies, which are increasingly investing in AI data centres as demand for computing capacity and generative AI services accelerates. Rival Tata Consultancy Services has also announced major investments in AI infrastructure, highlighting the sector’s growing strategic importance.
The project is expected to generate employment while expanding India’s domestic AI computing capacity, an area that has gained importance as businesses and governments seek locally hosted AI infrastructure.
