The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed 16 Metro stations across central Delhi as security was tightened during ongoing student-led protests linked to the NEET paper leak controversy.Some
Some of the affected stations included Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Supreme Court, Barakhamba Road, Indraprastha and Shivaji Stadium. While trains continued to run through several of these stations, passengers could not enter or exit at many of them. Interchange services remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.
The closures were not caused by a technical problem. They were part of a security plan as large crowds gathered near Jantar Mantar and areas around Parliament. Police also issued traffic diversions across central Delhi to manage movement and prevent congestion.
For thousands of office workers, students and visitors, the decision meant longer journeys, crowded alternative stations and unexpected delays. By evening, the DMRC reopened all affected stations after the security situation improved.
This is a reminder that a city’s public transport is closely connected to public events. When large demonstrations take place near important government areas, changes to Metro services and road traffic become part of the city’s safety measures. Even if you are not part of the protest, such decisions can affect your daily routine.
