Why the NEET Protests Are Growing Beyond the Exam

For lakhs of students, NEET is more than an entrance test. It represents years of hard work, family savings and the hope of becoming a doctor. That is why the latest protests are no longer only about an exam they have become a demand for trust in the education system.

The protests began after the NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled following a confirmed paper leak, affecting nearly 2 million candidates across the country. Students say the issue is bigger than one exam. They argue that repeated paper leaks and changes in competitive exams have created uncertainty for young people preparing for their future.

In recent days, demonstrations have spread beyond Delhi to cities including Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Student groups, opposition leaders and activists have joined the protests, demanding accountability and reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future. The issue has also disrupted Parliament, where opposition parties have pressed the government for answers.

The Central Government has promised reforms to strengthen the examination system and take action against those responsible for the paper leak. However, many students believe restoring confidence will require more than promises they want lasting changes that ensure every candidate gets a fair chance.

For students preparing for competitive exams, this story is about more than NEET. It raises a simple but important question: Can every student trust that their hard work alone will decide the result? Until that question is answered with confidence, the debate is unlikely to end.
